La Jolla
It's not surprising that La Jolla was named for its meaning, "the jewel," when discovered in the 19th century.
An accomplished potter founded La Jolla in 1928. Here, at the bend of what was then called La Jolla Canyon Road and which was the main route to Los Angeles, he established the La Jolla Canyon Clay Products Company, which flourished for more than 20 years.
