This enhances our customers’ success in clinical translation and commercialization.  Our products include placenta-, umbilical cord- and cord blood-derived MSCs, HSCs, NK cells, T cells, B cells and others.  In addition, we are democratizing access to cGMP manufacturing space to provide a complete solution from cell sourcing through clinical manufacturing for our customers. The Role:
OrganaBio is seeking an experienced mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC) Bioprocess Scientist/Engineer to develop off-the-shelf MSCs for use in the development of allogeneic cell and gene therapies. This Senior hire will work with perinatal and adult tissue to build and optimize MSC cell isolation, purification, expansion and characterization programs, while aiding the Executive Team in charting OrganaBio’s product and technology roadmap for cell and cell-based therapies.  The ideal candidate has a strong scientific foundation, keen attention to detail, strong work ethic and is a good team player who can work across the organisation so that he/she may take on more responsibility as the company matures.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
  • Spearhead the development of innovative MSC products that can be produced cost-effectively and according to established project timelines.
  • Develop and direct execution of program workflow and experiments.
  • Ability to be at the bench is a plus.
  • Lead and manage a team of three junior scientists
  • Draft, review and update SOPs, STPs, Batch Records and other documentation with the process development and quality assurance/quality control teams.
  • Keep detailed records during process development and manufacturing operations.
  • Keen ability to troubleshoot and remain solution-focused in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Manage bill of materials and inventory needed for laboratory operations, along with budget and cost-of-goods.
  • Assist with internal and external technology transfers.
  • Supervise/mentor scientists and engineers and manage routine laboratory operations.
  • Write, review, approve technical reports.
  • Provide regular status updates to executive management.
  • Support regulatory filings and inspections as required.
  • Serve as an SME (Subject Matter Expert) and liaison to senior management, cross-functional areas, customers and partners/collaborators.
  • Represents OrganaBio with utmost professionalism in all internal and external communications and interactions.  Is a good steward of OrganaBio’s culture.
  • This full-time position will require flexibility in work schedule, necessitating work on weekends and/or holidays from time-to-time.
 
Qualifications and Skills:
  • PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Cellular or Molecular Biology or related field with 3-10 years of industry experience. Title and compensation to be commensurate with experience.
  • Extensive cell culture experience required, especially with MSCs. Experience with birth tissue-derived cells a plus.
  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices is a must. GMP cell culture and manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • Ability to apply solid scientific methodology to problem solving.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of robust, reproducible and scalable manufacturing of MSCs.
  • Experience with bioreactor culture, genetic modification of cells and/or exosomes/extracellular vesicles a plus.
  • Experience with media formulation a plus.
  • Ability to research and implement new technologies to improve and accelerate manufacturing processes and product development efforts.
