A message from our director...

The world is experiencing extremely uncertain and trying times right now. COVID-19 has disrupted the lives of all of us, our families and our friends. The evolving situation surrounding the pandemic has meant that we’ve had to make some difficult decisions, however it is in the face of adversity that community and partnerships become more important than ever.

Phacilitate and I would like to let our community know that we are still working hard to provide the support that the advanced therapies industry has come to expect from us. Our aim remains the same; to promote collaboration and partnerships within the cell and gene therapy industry that will ultimately provide patients with the life-saving treatments and therapies that they need.

In light of the current climate, we will be increasing our digital outputs to ensure that our networks are kept completely up to date with industry insights, our events and initiatives. The entire Phacilitate team are now working remotely, and I am happy to say that it is business as usual. So please do reach out to any team member as you normally would, and they will be happy to help. Also, make sure you’re following all of our social channels below for regular updates from me and the team.

Despite having to postpone the Phacilitate Automation SIG until next year, we have elected to continue the invaluable work this group does by putting together a day of automation working groups which will take place 28th September in London, on the day before Phacilitate’s Advanced Therapies Europe 2020.

I am also pleased to share that currently we are still expecting our Advanced Therapies Europe show to take place in London, 29th & 30th September, and Advanced Therapies Week to take place in Miami in January 2021.

Whilst we are all still trying to work at maximum capacity, we recognise that the way we work will have to evolve and change as this situation progresses. However, we don’t want to rely on our own assumptions about what would be useful to you, so we are asking: what specific help do you need right now?

  • Have a conversation with us about how we can create valuable virtual experiences for you
  • Let us know how COVID-19 is affecting your business, we will be releasing insights into this later in the month.
Over the last week we have been speaking to the industry about how they are affected by the pandemic. Recently I had a call with Anthony Davies from Dark Horse and we discussed the effect this would have on the advanced therapies community, he had some great insight:

“Phacilitate is a unique community, focused on moving forward the field of cell and gene therapy for the benefit of all of its constituents, most of all its patients. COVID-19 has imposed much additional stress on this community, but, as healthcare professionals, we are confident that this disease will be controlled, treated and ultimately protected against.  Meanwhile, we are all learning new skills which will sustain progress, and skills which will better enable us to navigate future such events.  This crisis, if anything, has focused the world’s attention on the value of creative, sustainable and cost-effective pharmaceutical research and development.  We all look forward to a rapid, robust and sustainable emergence from our current situation”

Even though we are currently navigating uncertain times we, as an industry, are ready to come back stronger and more resilient than ever.

I look forward to hearing from you – even if it’s just for a chat!

Kind regards,
Mike Adeniya
